For over 35 years, Heather has been providing quality sewing services to thousands of people. Often asked how she got into the sewing business, she tells the story of how as a child, her mother was a sewing instructor at a local college.  That said, she started learning to sew at about 8 years-old.

Years later, as a mother herself with a young family of her own, her oldest child was about to enter day care.  Heather had made the decision to re-enter the workforce, however, just a few months into her new, nearly full-time job away from home… and her child, she decided that what she really wanted to do was to stay at home with her daughter.  She would try to figure out a way to make money to help supplement the household income another way.  So she turned her knowledge and love of sewing into a new career and successful business endeavor.  Custom Sewing by Heather is one of the top referred wedding dress alterations businesses of prominent wedding dress shops throughout the area.

The turning point in her alterations business happened in 2007 when her daughter moved into Woodbury’s City Walk apartments and Bella Bridal Boutique was preparing to open their new shop next door. Heather ended up introducing herself to the owner and a business relationship was formed.  Custom Sewing by Heather became the main wedding dress alterations seamstress service that Bella Bridal Boutique referred their brides to upon purchasing a dress, a relationship that continues strong to this day.  Shortly thereafter, Heather transitioned her already successful business into a “niche” sewing business, catering only to brides, bridesmaids, mothers-of-the-bride and mothers-of-the-groom, providing custom alterations for thousands of dresses in the years since.

When asked what she likes to do when she is not working, she will tell you it is spending time with her family, swimming in the pool or working in her garden. And in case it is not apparent from the photo here, Heather loves her grandchildren… and of course, her children and their spouses for giving her grandchildren. 🙂  She also wants everyone to know that she loves her husband very much as well, and would have said so here without him telling her she needed to add this to her bio.
